EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
-
Not at all. Our classes welcome complete beginners, so you can start exactly where you are and learn at your own pace.
-
For your first class, wear comfortable shorts or athletic clothing with no zips, buttons or hard/metal parts. A T-shirt you don’t mind getting stretched is perfect.
A rashguard is also great if you have one.
-
All you need is a water bottle and comfortable training clothes. No special gear is needed for your first class — we’ll take care of the rest and help you get settled in.
-
Good hygiene is part of being a good training partner. Because Jiu Jitsu involves close contact, a few simple habits help keep everyone comfortable and reduce the risk of infections spreading.
Fresh gear every session. Always train in clean clothing and wash everything after class.
Keep nails trimmed. Short, clean fingernails and toenails help prevent scratches.
Footwear off the mats. Please wear slides or shoes whenever you're walking around outside the mat area. Don’t walk around the gym barefoot.
Look after cuts and grazes. Any wounds must be securely covered before training.
Shower after class. Wash thoroughly as soon as practical after training.
Know when to sit out. Don't train when you're unwell or have a suspected contagious skin infection. If you're unsure about a skin concern, check with a coach before returning.
Everyone plays a part in keeping Northsouth clean, safe and ready to train.

Absolutely. BJJ black belts visiting the area from out of town are welcome to drop in and train with us free of charge while passing through.
